Madilyn did not stop drinking until we reached the penthouse, and once we were inside the apartment, she made a beeline toward the bar, and poured herself another drink.

She also did not speak a word to me throughout the car ride, and when I did try to speak, she asked the chauffeur to increase the volume of the song that was playing in the car ; ‘I knew you were trouble when you walked in’ by Taylor Swift, which she heard on loop until we reached the building.

Sarah and Olga were already waiting for us in the lobby, and the elevator ride up to the penthouse was one of the most interesting, awkward, and amusing things I had experienced in quite a while.

Standing right next to Sarah, Madilyn kept staring at my former roommate, without batting an eyelid, while Sarah, who had no idea what had transpired between Madilyn and I, did her best to keep staring ahead, and not look at Madilyn, while Olga, clearly drunk out of her mind as always, was busy clicking selfies, and making boomerangs, while I could just stand and hope Madilyn does not start throwing hands.

A few minutes after we had entered the house, Madilyn decided to join Sarah, Olga, and I, while they were recounting the tale of their escape from the fire.

“A toaster? You guys ran away from a fire caused by a fucking toaster?” Madilyn butted in, a bottle of whiskey in hand, and hair falling all over her face.

“Toasters can cause massive fires. They are known to burn down houses,” Sarah said, trying to hold back her anger.

“Tell me more about toasters! I am intrigued! What other house appliances cause fire? An iron? A curling rod? A heater? Please tell me more, Sarah, because this might be the only time I find you remotely interesting,” Madilyn smiled and crashed on the couch next to me.

“As you might have already noticed, Ms. Moore is very drunk, and not in her senses,” I explained to Sarah, who still looked confused.

“That makes two of us, baby!” Olga tried to high-five Madilyn, but both missed each other, and ended up laughing till they started crying tears.

“What the fuck were you doing with her, dressed in that?” Sarah asked, eyeing my outfit.

“Why? I don’t look good?”

“You look amazing, but, it's not the outfit, but the person you were hanging out with wearing this outfit that confuses me. What have I missed?”

“I will tell you what you have missed, dear,” Madilyn said, putting on a near-perfect British accent out of nowhere, making me break into a chuckle, “your friend, Hannah Brown has decided to be my friend, because she understood she can’t go against an adversary such as me, and I agreed to bestow mercy on this beautiful damsel, only because she agreed to wear a dress for me tonight. On our date. On our romantic date, where she looked fucking gorgeous!”

I heard Olga spit vodka out of her mouth, and saw Sarah sit up
